Inspiration

Stories from around the web that we can use to get inspired when we need a little push.

Rapha - Features ★★★★★

The features section on cycling gear manufacturer Rapha's website is quite good for those of us who like to read about cycling sufferfests.

The stories are full of cycling grandeur:

But in the heat, searing relentless high noon heat like this, there is nowhere to hide. It’s everywhere. Engulfing me like a furnace... I realise I am blinking so much that the road ahead is appearing as a series of stills.

In Tales from the Gutter, Greg Roche includes some great quotes from riders past, and himself writes:

Blanked by oxygen spots, muted by endorphins and ruled by a mind that still needs to get back to the group quickly, I am stuck in a half world. The longer I’m here, the more tired I’ll get, the less likely I am to make it back on.

There's many more stories to read, so if you're looking for some inspiration to get out and race or train hard, head on over and read what's on offer and then hit the pavement. After all, you can only achieve Glory Through Suffering.

Living Large in Lanzarote ★★★★

Michael Lovato writes up his race report for the 2002 version of Ironman Lanzarote. I hope that I can have the same upbeat attitude that he conveys in the article when trying to get up and over the daunting bike course!

10 Steps You Can Take To Guarantee Failure ★★★

Here's a great little bit from Achieve-IT about how to guarantee failure.

Suffice to say that if you find yourself following any of the 10 Steps You Can Take To Guarantee Failure, you may need to step back and re-evaluate. The steps include:

  1. Make your goals vague
  2. Avoid planning incremental steps
  3. Wait until you are motivated
  4. Don't research your goal

Personally, I can think of clear moments in my life where I realized that 1. my goals were vague and needed dialling in and 2. planning incremental steps were key to success - and avoiding procrastination.
