This program is loosely designed and is best restricted to the runner with two or three successful marathons under his or her belt. In other words, you should have a working knowledge of how to approach a long race.

Meant to be started 16 to 24 weeks out from race day, this plan runs on a two week cycle and includes a three week taper.

Marathon Taper by Roch Frey ★★

Now comes the best part of training. The Taper. Or is this the hardest part of training. A properly tailored taper can make or break your race. A taper may vary from 3 days to 3 weeks depending on the length and importance of a competition.

Not only do you get to read about Big Butt Williams, but Mr. Frey gives some good general and run specific taper advice before cutting into some specific training sessions for a marathon taper.
