Tour de France Stage 11 - The First Selections!

Well, it's been a fine colorful Tour de France to date, with a few surprises in the time trial, but finally we are in the mountains, and the first selections have started to happen.

The start of the tour has been fun, it truly has been great to see the colors of the peloton winding their way thru France, but you have to just love the sheer pain and suffering of the mountains, and today we were finally able to see some attacks by the main GC contenders.

Landis looked good, for sure, but Menchov is definitely my favorite.

I remember speaking with Victor Hugo Peña (a former client) after a stage of the Vuelta that finished atop the local category 1 climb, and he outlined that his strategy was to stay with that Russian, Menchov. He's good. I think people may underestimate the Rabobank rider, but truth be told they do have a deceivingly good team, and Menchov has won the Vuelta.

Anyways, it's great to see the mountain selections, and lets hope the contenders keep duking it out over the Pyrenees and into the Alps...

Update: Cyclingnews has a nice short video recap of the stage here.
